golden Bay gems
Join us for an unforgettable one-day journey from Nelson City into the heart of beautiful Golden Bay and back.
This small-group tour offers a perfect mix of spectacular natural wonders, fresh local flavours, and a truly unique New Zealand experience.
Your day begins with a comfortable *9:30am pickup* from your Nelson accommodation. We’ll wind our way up the dramatic Takaka Hill (also known as Marble Mountain), stopping at the stunning *Ngarua Caves*. Explore these beautifully lit limestone caverns filled with impressive stalactites, stalagmites, and even ancient moa bones – a fascinating underground world high above the surrounding landscapes.
Descending into Golden Bay, you’ll have the chance to enjoy a relaxed lunch option: either try your hand at *catch-your-own salmon fishing* at the popular Anatoki Salmon farm (where you can have your fresh catch prepared for you), or savour wholesome, seasonal fare at the iconic *Wholemeal Cafe* in Takaka town.
In the afternoon, enjoy a gentle short walk on the easy boardwalk to *Te Waikoropupu Springs* (Pupu Springs) – New Zealand’s largest and clearest freshwater springs, with some of the purest water in the southern hemisphere. The crystal-clear turquoise pools and peaceful forest setting make this a highlight of any Golden Bay visit.
To cap off this memorable day, we’ll visit *Kiwi Spirit Distillery*, home to New Zealand’s only tequila! Sample their award-winning range, including the distinctive *TeKiwi 100% Blue Agave Tequilana spirit* handcrafted right here in Golden Bay from locally grown agave. It’s a fun, one-of-a-kind tasting experience you won’t find anywhere else in the country.
We’ll return you to your Nelson accommodation in the early evening, tired but happy after a full day of scenic driving, short walks, great food, and special memories.
